Tom
DiFrancesco
Professional &
Amateur Boxing Trainer
Retired Professional Boxer
Tom's father was a police officer in Baltimore MD and was also a boxing
trainer at the local police academy. At 4 years old Tom put on his first
pair of boxing gloves and would box with the son's of his dad's colleagues
at the local gym on weekends.
Tom moved to San Diego
when he was 12 and
started boxing at the local Boys Club in their amateur boxing program. He
was 16-0 with 11 knockouts as an amateur over the next few years then
continued to train off and on over the next 10 years before renewing his
competitive juices at the age of 27. Tom trained and sparred with most of
the top pro fighters in the San Diego area during this time and had 2
professional fights, both wins, before serious health issues forced him to
retire.
By the time his health issues were resolved he was too old to consider
renewing a career as a fighter but his love of boxing motivated him to
become a trainer and manager of fighters. Tom has trained almost 40 fighters
since then and of his 4 top pros 2 fought for world titles (Danny ‘Dynamite’
Perez & ‘Smooth’ Rodney Jones) and the other 2 were ranked #1 & #3 in the
world. As a trainer & manager Tom’s fighters have won over 200 fights with
less than 25 losses.
